By Mary Walker | July 27, 2007

Today, I’m in Prescott, Arizona for the summer Smoki Museum rug auction. I’m tagging the rugs that are candidates for washing or repairs so that potential buyers have some idea of what that would cost should they buy the rug. Although it takes me out of the shop for a couple of days, it is…

Today is not going to be your usual hump day here in Gallup. There is a Black Lives Matter protest scheduled for later today. There's concern that this could be a prelude to violence and looting later. Some storefronts are already boarded up. Am I worried? Sure. I am more worried about people getting hurt and about the people who have been killed or who will be. They are more important than a store.

I support the Black Lives Matter movement. White supremacy, white privilege, and systemic inequality limit the potential of the human race and damage each and every one of us. Eliminating these evils starts in each person and each business, and it lives here in Weaving in Beauty every day. I hope that we can support these ideas in peace.

Be safe, Mary. Your business matters, too. Violence and looting takes our country deeper into the pit. May Gallup be protected by any devastation. Let it be a peaceful protest for the cause. Amen.
