Update: What Happens When the Navajo Rug Doesn’t Sell?

Laramie Blake

Laramie Blake looks for a buyer on Saturday. Find out what happened on Sunday below.

A Happy Ending for a Navajo Rug

Thanks for all of the interest in Laramie Blake’s Burntwater rug!  In fact, Weaving in Beauty site traffic broke it’s one day record with a total of 604 visitors.

To catch you up, Laramie’s Burntwater style Navajo rug (which she’s holding in the picture above) hadn’t sold at the Flagstaff Cultural Partners auction on Saturday and hadn’t sold on Weaving in Beauty by Sunday afternoon.  Laramie and I were getting ready to leave Flagstaff for Garland’s Navajo Rugs in Sedona to see if they’d be interested in buying it.  I did a final check of my email and there it was!  A reader had sent me a note with the subject line “If it isn’t too late….”.  It wasn’t.

The rug is on it’s way to a new home in New Mexico and Laramie is very, very happy.  She’s warping today and planning some small pieces for the Pueblo Grande Auction in two weeks.  I thought that she might do well with a purse.  Any other suggestions out there?  I’ll pass them on to her!

A Big Thank You on Behalf of a Young Navajo Weaver

Ahé’hee (thank you from the bottom of my heart) for your interest in and support of contemporary Navajo weavers.  Especially those who are just starting out, have a year old baby and are trying to be successful in two cultures by bringing proud traditions into the 21st century.

Hagoshíí (so long for now)
