58th Annual Navajo Arts and Culture Festival Scheduled for August 4th and 5th

For some reason, this event always sneaks up on me and I never get to attend. Every year, the Museum of Northern Arizona holds festivals of both Navajo and Hopi culture, and this weekend is the Navajo event. Morris Muskett, TahNiBaa Naataanii and Suzanne Harvey will be demonstrating weaving and there will be a showing of Benny Klain’s new film, Weaving Worlds which features Gilbert Begay and other weavers. The documentary tackles the difficult subject of weaver and trader relationships from the point of view of the weavers. I haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, but it was featured at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin earlier this year. You can get more information about the festival at http://www.musnaz.org/Heritage%20Program/navajo_fest_2007.html.

If you attend, or have a review of the film, please consider being a guest blogger here! You’ll get fame, glory and maybe a Google entry with your name on it.
