Navajo Ladies (The Girls) by Mary Walker

I’m getting ready for a dye class today, so I’ll just add a picture of a small (12″ x 18″) piece that I finished last week.   I used hand-dyed Burnham’s Trading Post yarn in size 2.  The colors are from cochineal, indigo, osage orange and aniline yellow and black.     I had a lot of fun working with each of the figures to select the shawl she is wearing.  The weaving is a gift for a friend who is recovering from mitral valve replacement surgery and I’ve been working on it since last July.  You can click on the picture for a larger view.

    Mary,

I wish I were your friend receiving this “small” piece. It may be small in size but huge in detail. I LOVE it, the colors, design, the whole kick and caboodle.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Mary,
Your new rug is great! Where do I find out about the yarn ‘dying’ classes? There is so much to learn. I find it all very interesting. Have a great day, Shari Elliott

kathleen higham: I'd like to join with you when it starts again!

Mary Walker: The Munsell color system was developed to provide a precise numeric description of color based on hue, value or lightness and color purity (referred to by Munsell as chroma). This precision is helpful in mixing dyes to achieve the desired results. There is a Munsell study group on Weavolution.com, but I was too busy teaching right now to join. I hope there will be enough people interested to do another group later this year. If you haven't already joined Weavolution, I'd encourage you to do it. The current study group is called the Munsell+dye study group.

Emmy: I'm curious now. What is a Munsell group? Thanks Emmy
