March 27-28, 2010 Rescued and Rescheduled(!), Southwest Indian Art Fair, (Desert Diamond Casino, I-19 and Pima Mine Rd. south of  Tucson)  “As a result of this year’s first round of cuts to its annual state budget allotment, Arizona State Museum (ASM) has canceled its annual Southwest Indian Art Fair (SWIAF) for 2010. This one would have been the museum’s 17th annual.   This year, Desert Diamond Casino, an enterprise of the Tohono O’odham Nation, has stepped up to offer its facility at I-19 and Pima Mine Road.    Expert event planners from the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance will be handling the logistical details on behalf of the museum. Previous fairs have been held on the grounds of Arizona State Museum and run by museum staff.”

March 6-7, 2010 (Saturday-Sunday) 9:30 AM-5 PM: 52nd Annual Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market, 2301 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004-1323. (602) 252-8848. Premier event for all Native American art forms, includes many textile artists. This event gets very crowded, especially in the afternoon, so go early if crowds bother you. Say hello to your webmaster Mary Walker if you see her. She’ll be the bilagáana with the camera. General admission is $15. The quality of the weavings is very high and this is a great opportunity to meet some of the top weavers and purchase items directly from the artists.

July 23-24, 2010 (Friday-Saturday): 11th Annual Navajo Rug and Indian Art Auction Smoki Museum, Prescott, AZ   Indian art objects other than rugs will be sold on Friday evening.  Navajo Rug preview from 10 AM to noon on Saturday; auction starts at 1 P.M.147 N. August 5-9, 2010 (Thursday-Sunday): 87th Annual Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Gallup, NM.  Activities include multiple parades, a pow-wow, song and dance and arts exhibits. You can expect to see extremely high quality textiles at the this event.  You should have your hotel booked by mid-May if you want to attend.  1-505-863-3896

August 21-22, 2010 (Saturday-Sunday) Annual Santa Fe Indian Market At the Plaza, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Indian market is the largest exhibition and sale of American Indian Arts (over 1,200 artists and 600 booths). Highest quality in all areas, including textiles.  You need reservations six to eight months in advance if you plan to attend this event (and sleep within 150 miles of Santa Fe).  Information: SWAIA, Box 969, Santa Fe, NM 87504. September 18, 2010 9:30 AM-dusk (Saturday): Friends of Hubbell Native American Arts Auction Hubbell Trading Post, Ganado, AZ.   Auction at noon, preview 9-11 AM on day of auction. Baskets, paintings, rugs, katsina dolls, pottery.  Over 500 lots.  Contact (928) 755-3475 for more information

November 5-7, 2010 (Saturday) 9 AM-4 PM 20th Annual Adopt a Native Elder Rug Show, Park City, UT.  The Rug Show helps Adopt-A-Native-Elder create a market for the Elders’ crafts and raise awareness about the Elders’ needs. The Elders bring rugs, jewelry, and baskets to sell.  Friday, November 6, 6-10 PM, entertainment, live auction, private preview, hors d’oeuvres, $30 adult, $10 children under 12.  Saturday and Sunday: art sale, weaving demonstration, veteran’s recognition with Navajo Code Talker Samuel Tso (10 AM Sunday), closing pow wow (3 PM Sunday),  $5 or canned food donation .

The Heard Museum Shop has scheduled its second Gathering of Weavers Marketplace for November 7, 2009. The event will be held at the Heard Museum’s Steele Auditorium. Weavers may sell their work without any booth or participation fees, with 20% of the purchase price going to the museum to defray the cost of the event.  Sales will be rung through the Museum Shop, and each weaver making a sale will receive a check after 3 PM on the day of the sale. Weavers are encouraged to register for the marketplace in advance by calling Bruce McGee or Lynn Bullock at 800-252-8344.   The Gathering of Weavers will also feature demonstrations and discussions on Navajo textile collecting and promises to be a wonderful day for both weavers and collectors.

November 14, 2009 (Saturday) 2nd Annual Maxwell Museum Navajo Rug Auction Albuquerque NM.  Preview from 10 AM to 1 PM, auction at 1 PM,  Contact sheri@rbburnhamtrading.com for more information.

November 20-21, 2009 (Friday-Saturday) Pueblo Grande Museum Rug Auction Pueblo Grande Museum, Phoenix, AZ.  This event  features both new and vintage  weavings.  Preview and lecture from 7 PM to 9 PM on Friday evening, preview from 10 to 12 noon on Saturday, auction starts at 1 PM .  4619 E. Washington St, in Phoenix, AZ.

December 12-13, 2009 (Saturday-Sunday) Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Art Market Steele Indian School Park, Phoenix, AZ. this 31st Market will be held on December 12th & 13th at South Mountain Park, 10919 S Central Ave, Phoenix.  It will be open from 9:30am to 5pm, both days. Auxiliary members only may enter the Market at 8:30am on Saturday. Admission to the Market is $8 for adults, children under 12 are admitted free.

    Are there any beginning Navajo rug weaving classes in early 2010? I’ve apparently missed the OCtober classes. As I’ll only be in Arizona through June, I would like to find a class as soon as possible.Thanks for any help you can offer,

    Celinda Hall: I live in Albuquerque, NM and I am looking for a class here in town. One school I can find is booked up. Don't want to have to take a vacation just to take a class. thanks
